The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, an international non-profit organization tracking the human rights impacts of over 8000 companies worldwide, is seeking a Project Assistant to support its work to promote business and human rights in Jordan.
Applicants must have:
- 3+ years of experience in project support and implementation preferably in the fields of human rights, labour migration, supply chains or a related field
- Experience with online research, data collection and analysis
- Strong commitment to advancing human rights in the business sector and to the rights of migrant workers in the region
- Right to work in Jordan
- Fluency in both Arabic and English

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre works to put human rights at the core of companies’ business models; to empower communities and workers to secure their rights and gain accountability for abuse; and to encourage governments to create the right regulation and incentives to facilitate these outcomes. We are a global organization that is rooted in fifteen regions and committed to cooperation with diverse actors in our movement. We have nearly 40 members of our Global Team based around the world who work with a rich network of human rights advocates in eight languages, including Arabic. Our work covers the full gamut of human rights in business, with three priority issues: labor rights; responsible resource use; and protection of civic freedoms and human rights defenders.
Our three primary global approaches to deliver this vision are:
- Empower human rights advocates in civil society, business, and governments to stimulate bold leadership for human rights in business.
- Strengthen corporate accountability to strengthen due diligence, and effective remedy for abuse.
- Build transparency of the advances, challenges, and abuse of human rights in business.
The Project Assistant will work closely with the Senior Programme Manager (based in Jordan) to support the implementation of a project designed to promote a broad nation-wide dialogue among stakeholders on business and human rights.
The purpose of this project is to work at the macro level across all sectors, on the mechanisms that promote respect for human rights by business, including seeking to clarify the role of business in safeguarding human rights, igniting top-level leadership to promote business and human rights, and introduce the responsibilities contained in the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) to businesses more familiar with a risk-based, legal compliance-type approach to their performance.
Specific activities include:
- Research the landscape of business and investment operating in Jordan and their impact on the rights of migrant and refugee workers, and support maintaining a public online database of this information
- Monitor relevant local news and developments on business, investment, migration, etc. as well as developments relating to national stakeholders
- Respond to queries and provide information on the project and activities, and maintain good ties with project stakeholders
- Provide backstop to the project through maintaining databases, follow-ups, organizing travel arrangements, and logistical arrangements of events
- Provide support to during events, including but not limited to notetaking, translation, and interpretation.

Work experience: At least three years of work experience in project implementation preferably in the fields of human rights, labor migration, or a related field. Experience in engaging with government interlocutors and senior management.
Subject matter expertise: Knowledge and understanding of migrant worker issues in Jordan and preferably international standards pertaining to migrant workers; familiarity with the business and investment environment in Jordan.
Research & analytical skills: Able to search and identify relevant information online and offline; adept at undertaking systematic data collection to a high level of detail and accuracy; ability to synthesise research and data for effective communication
Organisation and initiative: Able to work efficiently and methodically to support achievement of deliverables through strong organisation and prioritisation; self-motivated and able to maintain communication with project lead and team members in different time zones and geographies
Communications and web-savvy: Strong writing skills, including succinct writing for the web; experience in external communications, social media platforms and web management a plus
Languages: Fluency in both Arabic and English languages (read/writing/speaking)
